Come hear debut novelist Ramona Ausubel and her agent, PJ Mark discuss No One Is Here Except All of Us, and the journey to get this book published.

“In her debut novel, No One Is Here Except All of Us, Ramona Ausubel breaks new ground, with a unique prose style that weaves a classic immigrant tale into a world of dreams. The town of Zalischick and its citizens re-write their own story, filling it with magic, hope, and a determination in the face of destruction to find new ways to begin.” —Hannah Tinti, The Good Thief

No One Is Here Except All of Us opens in 1939, as the war has begun to encroach on the Jewish village of Zalischik. The townspeople find themselves surrounded by enemy-occupied land; trapped and desperate, the villagers—at the proposal of an eleven-year-old girl—attempt to save themselves by cutting all ties to the outside world and starting anew. And so they begin, in an act of collective storytelling, to recreate the world from scratch, to invent a safer place for their people.

Ramona Ausubel grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is the author of the novel No One is Here Except All of Us, forthcoming from Riverhead Books in 2012, with the collection of short stories A Guide to Being Born to follow. She holds an MFA from the University of California, Irvine where she won the Glenn Schaeffer Award in Fiction and served as editor of Faultline Journal of Art & Literature. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, One Story, the Green Mountains Review, pax americana, The Orange Coast Review, Slice and collected in The Best American Fantasy and online in The Paris Review. Her work was included in a list of “100 Other Distinguished Stories of 2008″ in the Best American Short Stories and thrice as a “Notable” story in the Best American Non-Required Reading. She was a finalist for the Pushcart Prize. She lives in Santa Barbara, California.
